Milk Reduction When Period Returns

Ugh your monthly aunt Flow returns! As if delivering a human, having leaky boobs and no sleep weren’t enough. You begin to wonder if you will ever catch a break! Eleven months of no visits from aunt Flow was amazing and I did not miss her one bit! Some women will not get a visit the entire time they are breastfeeding, lucky them! I was two months post-delivery when she returned. So how do you combat milk reduction while she visits? Here are a few pointers:

Cal-Mag Supplements

Just before your period starts, your blood calcium levels drop, causing your milk supply to drop. To combat this, you can take a Calcium Magnesium Supplement. I like Solgar brand personally.  Keeping the calcium levels high will keep your milk production high. Always run this by your doctor of course before beginning any supplement!

Prenatal Vitamins

Yes keep on them! I take Rainbow Light Prenatal Duo Pack since it is the only one I never ended up sick on.

Oatmeal

I have oatmeal every single day! I also make smoothies with oatmeal in them. My Pinterest page has a ton of recipes!

Pump Pump Pump!

Remember it is supply and demand. I pump every 2.5-3 hours while at work. On the weekends I do not give my lil one a bottle and bf only. I also pump 30min- 1 hour after he bf. Invest into a quality pump. I have the Medela Pump in Style Advanced with on the go tote. Most insurance companies will pay for you to have one with a RX from your doctor.

Tea’s

I faithfully drink Traditional Medicinals Organic Mother’s Milk Shatavari Cardamom tea. It taste great and is a great substitute for my second coffee in the mornings. There are a ton of other options out there too.

Ladies what have you done to combat drops in your production?
