How Much You Have To Spend dog

Even if you are getting a dog from a shelter or rehoming centre, you will still need to work out your budget. Of course, it will be much cheaper to do this than buying a brand new one from a breeder. However, not all homes and families are suitable for dogs. Many shelters specify they won’t rehome to families who have children under 8 for example.

So, if you are buying from a breeder or making a donation to a rehoming centre then figure out how much you need. It might be that you need to save up before parting with your cash.

What They Eat

Something you might not realize is how expensive dog food can be. With the cost of living rising this can make it incredibly difficult to buy pet food. There are many people now relying on food banks to feed not only them but their dogs as well. There’s a few types of diet that your dog can enjoy, it all comes down to personal preference and your budget. It might be that you have a larger dog and want to feed them a raw diet, for this you will need a load of room in your freezer to store the food. You also have kibble-only, wet food only, or even a mixture of all of them.

You can also make your own dog treats or food to feed them. One thing you should do is avoid giving them human foods as this can severely impact their digestive system.

Which Breed Do You Want?

Lastly, you may already know the answer to this question but what breed are you thinking about getting? While there will be breeds that you want to get, they may not be suitable for you and your lifestyle. For instance, if you don’t have much room within your home then you won’t want to introduce a big breed such as a great dane or german shepherd. Once you have done some research and taken a few dog quizzes then you will have a greater idea of a suitable breed.

If you don’t want to get conned out of your money then it is best to buy your dog from a reputable breeder. You could also head to various shelters and rehoming centres to see if they have any of the appropriate breed.
