How To Make Your House Feel Like Your Home

Getting the keys to your first home is a huge milestone in people’s lives. It’s that feeling of independence and achievement. It gives that “I’m totally winning at adulting” feeling, and is well deserved, after the physical and mental strain that comes with moving house. It’s an exciting new chapter for anyone’s life, whether with a friend, family member or partner. And usually the first thought that pops into people’s heads is “How can I decorate?” “How can I turn this house into a home?” Decorating can often be seen as tiresome and strenuous, but it shouldn’t be, right? We’re talking about adding a bit of yourself, your personality, your ‘vibe’ to your home, to make it as comfortable as possible for you, so it should be a fun process! Here are some tips to giving your house that personal touch, and enjoy yourself while doing it!

The Right Scent

Whenever someone walks into a house, one of the first noticeable things is scent, and this is an important factor, as it’s usually the first impression. Different scents can invite different emotions and add that level of comfort. There is an age old saying that ‘smells sell homes’, for example, coffee and freshly baked bread smells are said to be warm, inviting and cosy. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to go for that scent. There are many different scents, natural and manufactured, that can give your home a bit of personality, but it’s important that it reflects you. And there are a multitude of ways to scent your home, whether through scented candles, wax melts, plants, air fresheners, whatever encapsulates you and gives you that warm feeling when you walk through the door.

Get Personal with your Space

It’s important for your home to make you feel the safest, and most comfortable you could possibly be. And the places you feel the safest, are the places with a sense of familiarity, so don’t be afraid to add your own ‘taste’ to your living space, and again, this is completely subjective to everyone. If you’re a car fanatic and want a place to show off your car models, you could have a glass cabinet to highlight them. Are you a lover of futurism art? Feel free to hang some up. Or if you like something a little more subtle, that still has that personal effect, you can buy a modern console table decor ideas. It’s a great way to add your personality to your furniture choices and can really and style a room.

Colour Scheme

A solid colour scheme is one of the most effective ways to add your own essence to a house, and is so effective because you can be as subtle or striking as you like. And it doesn’t just stop at wallpaper, or tile colours. People have been known to buy household equipment to match a certain colour, and can apply to pretty much any room. So if you really want a red themed kitchen, who’s to say you can’t have a red toaster and microwave to match your walls?
