How to Balance it All as a Working Mama
As a working mama, it’s safe to say that you’re always going to have a lot of things to juggle. Even before motherhood, as a woman, it can be hard to make sure that you’re juggling your career, keeping on top of the household, nurturing your relationship, and maintaining a social life. So, when you add to that the idea of raising a family and being the primary caregiver for your children, it gets even more intense! If you’re a stay-at-home mama, things can be tough. But when you are working alongside everything, trying to find the perfect balance can be really, really tough.
Now, if you ask some people, they will tell you that there is no such thing as the perfect balance (or even being able to find a balance at all) – and they’d be right. It’s never possible to balance everything equally. Sometimes you’ll find that one area of your life needs you more, then it changes again. But that’s okay – it’s very much the nature of how it all goes. The most important thing here is that you’re able to manage everything in the way that suits you best.
Because here’s the thing – you really don’t have to feel like you need to have it all figured out or even feel like you’re dropping the ball. You can make it all work in a way that works best for you. But, to do that, you need to ensure that you’re approaching it in the right way. So that’s exactly what we’re going to take a look at in this blog post.
1. Understanding What You Want
First of all, you need to make sure that you know what you want. The idea of having a balance is something that we hear a lot, but what does that look like to you? It’s important for you to understand how the ideal balance between everything should look and feel. When you know what you’re aiming for, you can then look at bringing it to life.
2. Setting Your Priorities
With that in mind, you can then begin by figuring out your priorities. You’ll need to know what’s the most important thing in your life, the next important, and so on. If you know that being there for your children is the most important thing, then you need to ensure that you create a routine and set working hours that allow you to take them to school, be around for school events, and take them to classes, and so on.
3. Setting Boundaries
Alongside that, you also need to make sure that you’re setting boundaries too. It’s hard to make sure that you have a balance if the lines keep blurring between everything. This is when it can be really helpful for you to ensure that you can say no to projects outside of work hours and also make it clear when you need time to focus on work. It can be tough to set better boundaries in the beginning, but it will always pay off for you. It’s going to allow you to start building out that balance you’re looking for.
4. Establishing a Strong Routine
Now, you can also look at bringing in a good routine that works for you, too. Not everyone loves being in a routine, but it has been proven to be beneficial for our lives. Children also love having a routine. It helps them to stay regulated. If you know that you’re trying to juggle a lot of things, being able to do so is only going to happen when you’re working with a schedule and routine that supports that.
5. Bringing in the Right Products
To help you with that, you also need to make sure that you have the right products in place to help you. It doesn’t matter if you plan on working around your children or not, they can make the world of difference to facilitate your routine. Having baby monitors and smart bassinets can help you to manage things like clockwork. At the same time, having software to help you manage your time and the business is also invaluable.
6. Getting Support With Childcare
When it comes to finding the balance that works best for you, you need to ensure that you know you have support with childcare. Many women feel like this is shameful or that they should be able to do it all alone. But it’s okay for your child to go to nursery or have a babysitter for a few hours a day. It’s all about looking into your childcare options and seeing what feels right for you. Not everyone will have family close by who can help, so hiring help is always a great alternative.
7. Getting Help Around the House
You then also have your domestic responsibilities to think about here. It’s easy to say that you want to be able to do it all, but it also feels good to be able to focus on your career or business and get support with the rest. Whether you delegate chores, ask your husband to pitch in, or hire a cleaner, this is going to make you feel like you have things more under control.
8. Dealing With Mom Guilt
Lastly, you may find that you experience a lot of mom guilt. This is very much normal. As much as we all wish that mom guilt didn’t exist, it does. So, the best thing you can do here is learn to deal with it. When you’re able to find solutions that make you feel balanced and less guilty about being away from your family or having other interests, things will change for you. It’s all about being able to build out that lifestyle that feels nurturing and rewarding to you all.
How to Have it All, On Your Terms
Ultimately, you are going to want to make sure that you’re able to have the balance that works best for you, completely on your own terms. It might take a little bit of adjusting for you initially, but as you start to get in the rhythm, it will all slot into place. Then, before you know it, you will find that you have the daily routine and lifestyle balance that you’re looking for!
